Running a business means you will be working hard. This means that you will sometimes find yourself stressed, overwhelmed, and at the end of your tether. For many small business owners, running their own business is more than just a job, it is their passion. However, it is at the same time, one of the most stressful things you can do. This blog looks at 5 ways that you can stay sane with digital marketing.

  1. Plan for the Future: Set your goals and plan your campaign.

As the digital world continues to grow, so do the expectations for businesses to reach their target audience. This is especially true when it comes to marketing, which is an ever-changing landscape, full of new tactics and strategies. For some, it can be overwhelming. One of my most important pieces of advice is to have a plan and goals set for the future of your business and try to focus on the classical “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” and how are you going to reach your audience? How are you going to differentiate yourself from your competition? This should all be outlined in a marketing plan for having a minimum of perspective and a starting point in researching your competitors and what they do or did to reach success.

  1. How to stay positive while working in digital marketing.

When you’re working in digital marketing, it’s easy to get drawn into the black hole that is social media. Advertising, marketing, giving feedback, improving your content, and on and on. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of digital marketing, but there are strategies you can employ to make sure you don’t lose sight of what’s important.

It’s easy to get frustrated when you’re in a job that to most people seems like a breeze. You’re doing something that you love, you get to work from home, you get to play around with new things, you get to experiment, you get to learn new things every day, and let’s not forget the money. But marketing isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. It can be extremely frustrating when you’re not seeing the results you want. When you’re not sure what you’re doing wrong or why you’re getting rejected. You feel like you’re at the mercy of your competition. You feel like you’re never going to be able to get ahead. You might not be seeing the results you want, but you’re not alone. Even the best marketers in the world get frustrated. And it’s not just marketing. It’s life. If life was easy, what would be the point? But if you want to be successful, you must learn to push forward when you’re frustrated. You must learn to stay positive. You must learn to look for the good in every situation, even when it’s hard.

Our advice is to take a step back, do things that relaxes you the most and keep a positive outlook about your projects and a cheerful relationship with your clients by keeping them motivated, happy client – happy consultant.

  1. Your Plan needs to be SMART (specific, measurable, actionable, relevant, time-bound)

What is a SMART plan? SMART stands for: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Your Digital Marketing plan needs to be SMART, otherwise you will be wasting your time, your team’s time and your client’s time. It’s an unfortunate truth, but many digital marketing agencies are producing sub-par results because they are not following this strategy. The good news is that you can fix this problem. Simply by following the SMART approach to your digital marketing, you will be on your way to better website ROI’s.

  • Specific

Anyone who has ever played chess, or any other game for that matter, knows that you can’t play without a plan. There’s no way to win, no matter how hard you try, if you don’t have a plan to follow. The same goes for digital marketing. Every business needs a digital marketing plan. It doesn’t have to be a detailed one, but it needs to be there. For example, a digital marketing plan for a hair salon might include a list of the top three social media platforms the business will use. Then, the plan might detail how often those platforms will be used and what the business is hoping to achieve from those platforms.

  • Measurable

The best digital marketing plans are those that are measurable. If you can’t measure the success of your plan, you will never know if it’s working. One of the best ways to ensure your digital marketing plan is to put together a clear and achievable goal. Each goal should be unique and based on your business objectives. For example, you might set up a goal to increase traffic to your site by 5% or to grow your social media following by 10%. Whatever your goals are, you need to be able to factor in your digital marketing plan and to prove you’ve met them. If you can’t measure the success of your plan, you will never know if it’s working.

  • Achievable

So you’re putting together a plan for your business. It’s got everything in it; tons of strategies, tactics, and marketing channels. You’re confident that it’s going to build your business, bring in tons of new customers, and help you dominate your industry. But before you start working on it, you need to ask yourself one very important question: Is it achievable? The problem with having an “ambitious” marketing plan is that you can easily get frustrated when you fall behind on the tasks you set. If your plan is too ambitious, you’re more likely to get frustrated when you don’t reach your goals, because you’ll be working harder to complete tasks than if you had set smaller, more realistic goals.

  • Relevant

Did you know that 80% of business (small and big) haven’t even heard of Google Analytics? If you want to be successful in your business, you need to stay ahead of the curve and be ahead of your competition. You need to be able to adapt and move with the times and using Google Analytics is a great way to do that. (For more information we would gladly answer your questions here.)

  • Time-bound

The average attention span of a human being is about 8 seconds. In the digital marketing world, that isn’t very long. In fact, some digital marketing plans can take months to be completed. Therefore, it becomes so important to have a time-bound plan that you can follow through with. Your plan should have a timeline that will help you schedule out your campaign. You will then need to follow through with that timeline. If you don’t do this, you will not be able to keep up with your digital marketing. It will fall behind and you will not be able to make any money or keep your clients in.

  1. Keep up with the Tactics: With new tools and tips, digital marketing is constantly expanding.

The digital marketing arena is constantly changing. New tools, tips, tactics, and tricks are always being developed and shared by digital marketing professionals. And while it’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, you can’t forget to do your own research. As a digital marketing professional, you’re responsible for the success of your business. You need to be aware of what’s happening in the digital marketing world, but you also need to develop your own strategies. Keep up with the digital marketing world, but don’t get caught up in it.
